Eid-ul Adha

( The Feast of Sacrifice )

Spinney Hill Park, Leicester

Muslims across Leicestershire celebrate Eid-ul Adha, the Feast of Sacrifice. It is celebrated throughout the Muslim world as a commemoration of the Prophet Ibrahim's willingness to sacrifice his son for God, this photograph being taken at Leicester's Spinney Hill Park in 1994 , where hundreds of people gather to mark the day. However, the Government had asked the community not to transport animals for the celebrations because of the Foot and Mouth outbreak. Muslims in Leicester said that instead, they would send money abroad for the ritual sacrificing of animals.
